When you’re looking to order uniforms for your
staff, it can be tricky to navigate all of the
different features and options available to
you. There are so many different options and factors to take into
consideration, but there are a few things you must consider above all else. If
you want to ensure that your uniforms are functional, and used properly, there
are three main features you must consider;
fit, care, and comfort.
One of the biggest mistakes that employers
make is not having the right size garments for their staff. Not only does fit
affect the comfort level, but it can negatively impact any safety features as
well. If you’re working with food safety, for instance, and need clean garments
that won’t get in the way -- a uniform that’s too big will often drag and
droop, getting dirty and compromising safety. Meanwhile, a uniform that’s too
small will expose unnecessary amounts of skin and hair. In other industries
this can be even more dangerous as those same issues can lead to serious health
and safety risks for your workers.
Will you be providing uniform cleaning and care services, or will it
be up to your staff? When you’re relying on staff to care for their own
uniforms you need to consider a few things. First, you’ll need to give them
enough options that they’ll be able to have clean uniforms at the ready without
doing laundry nightly. Next, if there are any issues, can they care for or
repair them easily. In some cases, protective garments must be cared for and
inspected by the maker if there are issues.
Last but not least, are your garments
comfortable enough to wear and use without impeding workflow? When designing a
garment for protection, it’s not always possible for it to be completely
lightweight, however, it shouldn’t be so heavy it makes work difficult. When
possible, have members of your team test uniform options to see if they will
have full range of movement.
