Spring is getting closer every day. The
official start of spring isn’t for a few more weeks, but that doesn’t mean you
should be ignoring how to change up your uniforms in time for it. One of the
best ways to upgrade your employee uniforms is to make them waterproof,
especially if they need to work outdoors when it rains day in and day
out.
Rainwear isn’t as old as you might think it
is. It only goes back to the 1970s, which was fifty years ago. After its first
generation, the technology behind it has only continued to advance, so think
about what five decades of development could do. It protects your clothes from
getting wet due to rain or any liquid splashes while on the job.
Hospitals, hotels, and restaurants, along with
construction and road work jobs can all benefit from this technology. Also
warmer temperatures are coming. That means your workers are more likely to
start sweating. Waterproof fabric is also sweat-wicking, so it catches
perspiration and releases it before anyone can get overheated.
So what happens on the inside? Laminates are
often attached to the interior of the material to make it more waterproof than
it was before. Depending on the brand and the manufacturer, you may find that
your waterproof rainwear has a different application of similar
moisture-resistant techniques. That’s where a liquid coating comes into
play.
Now that we have covered that, let’s look at
what happens on the outside. This part is going to seem more obvious, but
sometimes you won’t be able to see it and understand what is actually
happening. Many types of waterproof rainwear is treated with a finish called
durable-water-repellent, or DWR. This method is used to prevent the insides of
the jackets, coats, and ponchos from getting too wet, which would defeat the
purpose of the rainwear.
Different brands are available for you to use.
Some examples include Gore-Tex, eVent, Gore-Tex Pro, and Gore-Tex Performance.
It all comes down to what you want and what you need.
